Terms of Service
Effective October 22, 2026. These terms are an agreement between the hiring team using Code Maverick ("you") and Brenden Bishop, operating Code Maverick as a sole proprietor in the United States ("Code Maverick", "we"). By creating a base, accepting an invitation, or running an interview, you agree to them.
Candidates are not party to these terms. A candidate's relationship is with the hiring team that invited them. Candidates get the Privacy Policy and the Transparency notice, which describe exactly what the sync client sends.
1. The beta
Code Maverick is in a closed beta. That means:
- Access is by invitation and can be withdrawn.
- Features will change, sometimes without notice, and some will not work.
- There is no uptime commitment and no support commitment beyond a human reading your email.
- Pricing has not started. We will tell you in writing before anything costs money, and nothing in these terms makes you owe us money.
2. Your account and your base
You sign in with a GitHub account through our identity provider. You are responsible for that account and for everyone you invite into your base. Keep invitations to people who should see your interviews.
You must be at least 18 and able to enter a contract on behalf of the company you are hiring for.
3. What Code Maverick does, and what it does not do
Code Maverick records a technical interview: the files a candidate changes, the order they changed in, the notes your interviewers take, and which lines were written by an agent and which tool wrote them.
Code Maverick does not make hiring decisions and does not score candidates. The record is evidence for your people to read. You are the employer of record for every decision you make with it, and you are responsible for complying with employment, anti-discrimination, and privacy law where you and the candidate are. If we ever add automated scoring, we will change these terms first and say so plainly.
4. Your obligations
- Tell candidates what Code Maverick captures before they run it. The join page and the Transparency notice do this; do not remove or contradict them.
- Give candidates a real choice about agent tools in line with the interview policy you set, and do not misrepresent the policy to them.
- Use Code Maverick only for interviewing people you are genuinely considering hiring, and only with exercises you have the right to use.
- Do not upload material you do not have the right to share, do not try to reach another team's base, and do not use the service to harass, surveil, or deceive anyone.
- Do not probe, scan, or load-test the service without asking us first. Security reports are welcome at the address in the Privacy Policy.
5. Ownership
Code belongs to whoever wrote it. A candidate's work stays the candidate's or yours under whatever arrangement you have with them; Code Maverick takes no ownership of it. Your exercise material stays yours.
You give us a limited license to store, process, and display that content for the sole purpose of running your interviews and keeping your record. The license ends when the content is deleted.
Code Maverick, its name, the aircraft mark, the software, and the design are ours. You may not copy the service, resell it, or remove our notices.
6. Your data
The Privacy Policy explains what we collect, how we use it, who we share it with, and how long we keep it. For candidate data you are the controller and we are the processor: we act on your instructions and on these terms, and we do not use candidate data for anything else. A short data processing addendum on the same terms is available on request for teams that need one.
You can ask us to delete an interview or your entire base at any time by emailing privacy@codemaverick.dev from the account that owns the base. We will delete it within a reasonable period and confirm. We may keep a copy only where the law requires it.
7. Agent tools and third-party services
Candidates use their own editors and agent tools. Those tools are not ours, and their terms and privacy practices are between the candidate and the tool's maker. We read what those tools expose about their work and nothing more. The Transparency notice describes the categories of agent data the sync client captures; what a given tool exposes varies, and the sortie packet states the capture behaviour for each interview.
8. Termination
You can stop using Code Maverick at any time by asking us to delete your base. We can suspend or end access if you break these terms, if the beta ends, or if continuing would create legal or security risk for us or for candidates. We will tell you when we can, and we will give you a way to export or delete your data on request.
9. Disclaimers
The service is provided as it is and as it is available, without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including fitness for a particular purpose, merchantability, and non-infringement. It is a beta: records may be incomplete, agent attribution depends on what the candidate's tools expose, and we do not promise the record is accurate or exhaustive.
10. Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent the law allows, Code Maverick is not liable for indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or for lost profits, lost data, or lost hiring decisions, arising from the service. Our total liability for any claim is limited to the amount you paid us in the twelve months before the claim, which during the beta is zero. Some places do not allow these limits; where they apply, our liability is limited to the smallest amount the law permits.
11. Indemnity
You will defend and indemnify Code Maverick against claims that arise from your use of the service in breach of these terms, from content you upload, or from hiring decisions you make.
12. Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the State of New York and the United States, without regard to conflict of law rules. Disputes will be brought in the state or federal courts located in New York, and both of us consent to their jurisdiction.
13. Changes
We may change these terms as the product and the law change. We will post the new version here, move the date at the top, and email the owner of every base on the beta before a change that reduces your rights takes effect. Continuing to use the service after that date means you accept the change.
14. The whole agreement
These terms, the Privacy Policy, and the Transparency notice are the whole agreement between you and Code Maverick about the service. If any part is unenforceable, the rest stands. We may assign this agreement if Code Maverick becomes a company or is acquired; you may not assign it without our consent.
